Selby always knew it was different from other kids. They didn't talk like them, didn't walk like them, weren't found on a doorstep as a baby, really they just weren't anything like the other kids at all. According to her parents, she hadn't always been this way. Apparently he was "normal", whatever that means, before the incident. He remembers it pretty clearly; he, Santiago, and another kid were playing in the woods. He and the other kid went further in, because someone in the woods needed help.
When they found the person, they asked Selby if they could carry them out of the forest. Selby said yes. The person thanked Selby, and then stopped moving. The kid who came with them vanished as well, so Selby went back to the clearing. The police said they'd been gone for hours, and not even Santiago seemed to remember the other kid who was with them.
Ever since that day, Selby has felt an irrestiable call to return to the forest...
